Teacher, 7-12 Mathematics Email Phone: (715)388-8296 Merry Christmas and happy New Year!
This has been a really busy year so far. I'm on my third year teaching math at Mercer, and I really appreciate some of the unique aspects of this job. Most importantly, I've been able to get to know the students and learn each student's strengths. I can also make time for one-on-one work much more easily than might be the case at a bigger school.
There's been a lot going on, but here's a few highlights:
7th graders have been learning about doing arithmetic with positive and negative numbers (and of course with fractions, their favorites), and will start solving algebra problems soon.
8th grade math is meant to preview high school math. This year's class finished a big unit on exponents and have also studied "rigid motions" (moving, rotating, and flipping shapes on a plane).
The algebra 1 class is working on graphing equations, and the algebra 2 class is nearly done with a long unit on polynomials and some tricky equations involving complicated fractions.
In geometry, we've practiced constructions using straightedge and compass, and we've studied congruency (basically, that just means having the same shape).
And in calculus, we've finished learning about derivatives and we're about to start on integrals!
Happy holidays!
