The Mercer School District school board resolved to place a referendum question on the April 2 ballot, asking the community if they approve exceeding the revenue limit by $800,000 per year, for five years.
For taxpayers that's just an increase of $1.12/$1,000 of property value. That's just $224 per year for a $200,000 home, or a little over $18 per month. Because that's a serious consideration for community members, and to be sure you're making an informed decision it's important that you understand how we got here.
For many years the Mercer School District spent money prioritizing the student learning experience with small class sizes, staffing and instructional resources. Over time, however, facilities and resource upgrades have gone unattended, putting the school at a critical point where those upgrades are necessary to maintain basic functions into the future.
