THE STRENGTH OF A SMALL SCHOOL like The Mercer School doesn’t just come from the individualized attention to every student’s needs. It doesn’t just come from the sense of family you feel as a learner, nor does it just come from the steady support of the community.
The strength of The Mercer School lies in RICH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES like hands-on applications of knowledge, a winning robotics program, championship sports teams, outdoor education, college in the high school, world-ready electives and a wind ensemble. Authentic experience. Expansive opportunities that prepare students to succeed and thrive.
To maintain operations, programs, and facilities, the school Board has approved the following referendum question to be placed on the upcoming April 2nd ballot:
“Shall the School District of Mercer, located in Iron County, Wisconsin, be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Wisconsin Statutes Section 121.91 by $800,000.00 per year, beginning with the 2024-2025 school year through the 2028-29 school year, for nonrecurring purposes consisting of maintaining operations, programs, and facilities?”
Explanatory Statement:
“A “yes” vote on the question is a vote to authorize the School District of Mercer budget to exceed the revenue limit specified in Wisconsin Statutes Section 121.91 by $800,000.00 per year beginning with the 2024-2025 school year through the 2028-29 school year. This revenue limit increase will permit the District to attract and retain staff, add teachers, and adopt curriculum to enhance the education of the District’s students. A “yes” vote also includes allowing the District to maintain its facilities, specifically the boiler, ventilation system, and electrical panels.”
“A “no” vote on the question is a vote to deny the School District of Mercer the authority to exceed the revenue limit specified in Wisconsin Statutes Section 121.91 by $800,000.00 per year beginning with the 2024-2025 school year through the 2028-29 school year. Without this revenue limit increase, the District’s ability to attract and retain staff, add staff, adopt curriculum, and address its facilities maintenance needs, specifically regarding the boiler, ventilation system, and electrical panels, would remain unaddressed and negatively impact the District’s students.”
