Did you ever wonder what the difference between gross pay and net pay is? Or, whether you should have a credit card or use a debit card? If so, students should be taking Business Math. This course will give students a better understanding how money and finances work. This course will help them determine what taxes and deductions are taken out of their paychecks and whether or not they should get a loan for that car or not.
In this class, we work through all of that and we do not use calculators. I went back to the old "pencil and scrap paper" method so students can remember all the math skills they learned in elementary school and not have to rely on a calculator or their phone all the time. It's making them think again!
This course is for anyone in the 9th through 12th grades. Take it and find out for yourself how much you don't know about finances and money.
This course is now a part of my 8th grade curriculum. The 8th grade explores careers in the first semester and now will learn about business math the second semester. I believe it is a great start to the business courses when they reach high school.
