for Second Consecutive Year.

On Tuesday, September 15th, Mercer received notification the from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s  State Superintendent, Tony Evers saying " I am pleased to offer the opportunity for Mercer School to continue sharing successful Spotlight Practices across the state and having a positive impact on education in Wisconsin." There are 2218 public schools in Wisconsin, only ten (10) received the Spotlight Award for 2015-2016. Mercer is being recognized for excellence in several categories: Teaching and Learning, as well as Leadership and Governance.   In learning about the Mercer School’s “elite” status, Board of Education President Deanna Pierpont said,  "I am proud outloud of the leadership of Superintendent Erik Torkelson and his staff who are diligently leading our school into the 21st century with integrity, caring, and positivity”.  As a part of the Spotlight program Mercer has been awarded a $25,000 educational grant to support staff professional development, technology acquisition, curriculum updates, as well as the expenses necessary for visiting schools to travel to Mercer. Mercer received a $50,000 award in 2014. District Superintendent, Erik Torkelson, responded, "This program and the awards associated with it have brought an increased sense of pride to our entire organization and is an affirmation of our relentless dedication to continuous improvement efforts. We are very thankful and appreciative of the DPI's efforts to recognize Districts who are engaged in effective practices which result in student achievement." Torkelson also stated, " We would like to invite all Districts to visit Mercer School so that we can share our effective practices and learn from theirs." Interested Districts should contact the Mercer School @ 715-476-2154 to schedule a visit.
