On July 7, 2008 Chase, Mrs. Krans, and Ms. Varsik saw a pair of Trumpeter Swans just like these at the Little Turtle Flowage. There were six signets, which are the most ever recorded at the flowage. Chase showed the two teachers the progress he had been making on his responsibilities at the site. He has kept track of the Tree Swallows nesting in Bluebird houses. The houses were built to attract Bluebirds but as of yet, they are housing only Tree Swallows. All the babies had fledged except for one new nest. Bruce Bacon said the new nest might possibly be bluebirds or a late nesting swallow. The mosquitoes were vicious. We stopped at the DNR station and talked with Bruce Bacon about Chases progress. Chase will continue tagging knapweed to be sprayed. He will continue to bird watch and identify plants, animals, and check water levels. He will be banding Osprey with Mr. Bacon soon. He is taking lots of pictures, which will be added to the site soon.
