Minutes of the Special Board Meeting

Wednesday, September 4, 2019

Mercer School District

 

CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Board President, Bob Davis.

 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Bob Davis, Sue Loth, Jeff Nehring and Jim Hannemann with Micki Holmstrom arriving at 5:06 p.m.

 

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT:  Interim District Administrator, Sheri Kopka, Dick & Ginny Kemplin, Dorothy Wahner, Mary Ann Sabec, Kelly Kohegyi, Kathy Hannemann, Doris & Tom Marsel, Dick Hassberg, Sue and Richard Pegg, Sharron Knapp, and Bill Erdman.

 

ACTION ITEM:  Motion by Jeff Nehring, seconded by Micki Holmstrom for preliminary approval of Automatic Payroll System Policy #6510 as presented for initial adoption proceedings at the next regular monthly board meeting in September.  All ayes motion carried 5-0.

 

Motion by Sue Loth, seconded by Jim Hannemann for preliminary approval of School District Handbooks-Employee, Staff, Student as presented for initial adoption proceedings at the next regular monthly board meeting in September.  All ayes motion carried 5-0.

 

Motion by Bob Davis, seconded by Jeffrey Nehring, to convene into executive session, pursuant to §19.85(1)(c), Wis. Stats., to consider employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. Specifically, to discuss administrator request for medical leave, and to potentially take action regarding same. 

 

Pursuant to §19.85(1)(f), Wis. Stats., to consider financial, medical, social or personal histories or disciplinary data of specific persons, preliminary consideration of specific personnel problems or the investigation of charges against specific persons except where par. (b) applies which, if discussed in public, would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person referred to in such histories or data, or involved in such problems or investigations. Specifically, to discuss matters related to student assessment, and to potentially take action regarding same.

 

Pursuant to §19.85(1)(g), Wis. Stats., to confer with legal counsel for the governmental body who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation in which it is or is likely to become involved, and to potentially take action regarding same. Roll call vote, Micki Holmstrom – Yes, Bob Davis – Yes, Jim Hannemann – Yes, Sue Loth- Yes, Jeffrey Nehring- Yes, all ayes motion carried, 5-0. Convened into executive session at 5:17 PM

 

RECONVENE TO OPEN SESSION:  Motion by Jeff Nehring, seconded by Jim Hannemann to return to open session.   Roll call vote, Micki Holmstrom – Yes, Bob Davis – Yes, Jim Hannemann – Yes, Sue Loth- Yes, Jeffrey Nehring- Yes, all ayes motion carried, 5-0. Returned to open session at 7:16 PM

 

Motion by Micki Holmstrom, seconded by Jim Hannemann, to acknowledge and accept Administrator Erik Torkelson’s request for continuation of a leave of absence from his position.  All ayes, motion carried 5-0.

 

No further action was taken.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:  Motion by Micki Holmstrom, seconded by Jeff Nehring to adjourn the meeting.  All ayes, motion carried 5-0.
