Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting

Mercer School District

 

CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Board President, Deanna Pierpont.

 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Deanna Pierpont, Kelly Kohegyi, Noel Brandt, with Micki Pierce-Holmstrom and Christa Reinert absent.

 

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT:  District Administrator, Erik Torkelson, Business Manager, Tricia Thompson, Lori Boltz, Bill Gust, Nancy Lundquist, Sharon Drawz, Doris Marsel, Josh Reed, Paige Anteau, Dick and Ginny Kemplin, Adam Kussard, Denise Thompson, Debbi Hohner, Ernie Moore from Iron County Miner and Doug Kaiser from FYI Newspaper.

 

APPROVAL OF BOARD MEETING MINUTES:  Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve the Regular Board Meeting Minutes from Monday, June 26, 2017 as presented.  All ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT:  Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

APPROVAL OF DISTRICT PAYMENTS:  Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve vouchers 56971 thru 57043 (general account) and 10852 thru 10874 (activity account) in the amount of $ 98,432.16.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

ACTION ITEMS:  Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to table the Head Girls Basketball Coach contract until August Board Meeting when all Board Members are present and approve the other Coaching and Extra Curricular Contracts as presented. Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve increasing Student Lunch prices for 2017-2018 school year (Pre-K-6 grade from $2.10 to $2.20 and 7-12 grade from $2.40 to $2.50) as presented. All ayes, motion carried 3-0. 

 

Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to approve the hiring of Shawn and Amber Thompson as Co-Coaches for Assistant High School and Assistant Middle School Volleyball Programs. Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to approve the hiring of Robyn Schoeneman as Head Coach for High School Track. All ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve the Community Service Memorandum of Understanding as presented. All ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:  Deanna Pierpont called for public comment three times.  No public comment.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION:  Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to convene into executive session per Wisconsin statutes 19.85 (1) (c) considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of any public employee over which the government body has jurisdiction or exercise responsibility, and (f) considering financial, medical, social or personal histories or problems or the investigation of charges against specific persons, the Board of Education may move into closed session for the purpose of discussing: 2017-2018 Administrative Contracts: Buildings & Grounds, Administrative Assistant, Business Manager, Coaching Contracts & Extension of Benefits for Retirees. Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.  Convened into executive session at 5:31 p.m.

 

RECONVENE TO OPEN SESSION:  Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to return to open session.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 3-0.  Returned to open session at 6:04 p.m.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve Administrative Contracts for Adam Kussard, Julie Hoffmeister and Tricia Thompson as presented. All ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve Extension of Benefits to Retirees – Lori Boltz, Irene Rice and Jerry Gross. All ayes, motion carried 3-0.

 

No action on Coaches Contract in Executive Session.

 

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:  Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to adjourn the meeting.  All ayes, motion carried 3-0.
