Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting

 

Monday, January 23, 2017

 

Mercer School District

 

CALL TO ORDER:  The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Board President, Deanna Pierpont.

 

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:  Deanna Pierpont, Kelly Kohegyi, Micki Pierce-Holmstrom, Noel Brandt with Christa Reinert absent with permission.

 

OTHER PERSONS PRESENT:  District Administrator, Erik Torkelson, Business Manager, Lori Boltz, Jim & Kathy Hanneman, Bill Gust, Doris and Tom Marsel, Hedda Patzke, Bill and Joyce Brundage, Mike Lambert, Gary Schlais, Brian Baltz, Dan Kiedrowski, Sheri Kopka, Pat Moses, Rick Duley, Vic Ouimette, Ed Alvey Sr., Steve Altman, Todd Engler, Adam Kussard, Hank Joustra, James Schmidt, Paul Chaney, D’Kota Engler, Ernie Moore from the Iron County Miner & Doug Kaiser from the FYI Newspaper.

 

Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Micki Pierce-Holmstrom to move the Fire Department Recognition to Administrative Report.  All ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

APPROVAL OF BOARD MEETING MINUTES:  Motion by Micki Pierce-Holmstrom, seconded by Noel Brandt to approve the Regular Board Meeting Minutes from Monday, December 19, 2016 as presented.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

APPROVAL OF TREASURER’S REPORT:  Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

APPROVAL OF DISTRICT PAYMENTS:  Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to approve vouchers 56425 thru 56506 (general account) and 10701 thru 10722 (activity account) in the amount of $ 93,342.21.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

At this time Mr. Torkelson and the Board recognized the Mercer Fire Department and Ambulance for their contribution to our district by donating their time to fill the ice rink, provide fire safety class to our students, support all our events, using the fire truck for students who go to state for various reasons, training students on CPR, do our building safety inspections, provide emergency response team for our football season and any emergencies here at school and the many other things that they volunteer to help at, the district provided each member a sweatshirt of appreciation.

 

ACTION ITEMS:  Motion by Kelly Kohegyi, seconded by Noel Brandt to not put a cap on regular and special education spaces for enrollment for the 2017-18 school year.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Kelly Kohegyi to accept the resignation/retirement of Jerry Gross with thanks and regrets.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Micki Pierce-Holmstrom to open bids for removal of white building and request that any monies received be used toward reconstruction of another storage facility.   Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

Motion by Kelly Kohegyi to approve the policy process policy.  Motion withdrawn.

 

Motion by Noel Brandt, seconded by Micki Pierce-Holmstrom to table the policy process policy until the February board meeting.  Roll call vote, all ayes, motion carried 4-0.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:  Deanna Pierpont called for public comment three times, no public comment at this time.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  Motion by Micki Pierce-Holmstrom, seconded by Noel Brandt to adjourn the meeting.  All ayes, motion carried 4-0.
